Hello 2021!
We made it, not with a bang but a whimper but we made it none the less 🙂
How are you?

This first book recommendation for 2021 was a gentle start to the New Year and carried me through Christmas secure in the knowledge that tucked away amongst the big ticket items was a delicious book token to be used to keep the Christmas magic going into the New Year…and here we are! Woo Hoo x
Meet the author, Cathy Rentzenbrink

My new BFF ( only that her voice is so warm and comforting, I feel I know her) and a great guide to fabulous books for my list for 2021. The premise of the book is simple, back ground stories interwoven with book selections embracing a number of different topics written by a book seller, writer, mother, wife and survivor of something sad. I like the lens through which she writes and am encouraged by her comfort and writing.
Especially in these strange Corona Virus times.
I think we need it.
Chapter topics include a selection of books for each heading such as memoir, working mothers, non-fiction and the selections are stimulating and interesting, – books I have not read and have missed and that only a book seller might review and recommend. So kudos here and thank you my order is already in with our local independent book shop and I am trying to figure out when I can travel into Leeds to visit Waterstones for more!
Cathy writes over and over again of the book “Moon Tiger” by Penelope Lively. I will add this to my list for 2021 and note the subject matter of the close relationship between a brother and sister spanning the two world wars – have you read this, can you tell me more?
Incidentally, if you would like to read Cathy’s heart breaking first book about her brother and her loss, I wrote about it here in The Last Act of Love.
And here is some music to celebrate the stillness of snow falling and the wonder of life
Happy New Year, dear Reader with my wish to you and for us all for a much brighter 2021
